Jean is an AUSTRALIAN WATERCOLOUR artist and writer.

She paints contemporary watercolours that address a variety of themes. Both her writing and her paintings show a simplicity of style, a straight forwardness, which aspires to convey a sense of connectedness through the joys and experiences of her own life.  Returning to her beloved childhood beach has influenced her work in recent years. The beach, and her love of simple beautiful things, has seen a paring down of process in both her writing and her painting.

“I began painting in watercolour in 1992. At the time I had been inspired to write (and illustrate) a series of children’s books. There was just one small problem. I had to teach myself how to paint in watercolour first. Suffice it to say, this would eventually take way longer than I had originally anticipated! (grin)

And so it was that the “getting of watercolour wisdom” was to become my primary focus for a good number of years and the children’s books were shelved indefinitely. During those years (between raising my children and supporting the family business) I honed my watercolour skills and exhibited widely. I took workshops and travelled the world learning from some of the best in the business. Eventually I learned to paint like me … and I am totally okay with that!

In 2004 I launched my first website. In 2007 I launched another, and began writing my Blog. That’s when I remembered how much I loved to write, and it wasn’t long before the words came back to me.

It’s funny how one passion can slew you off course for a number of years until eventually you come back around to yourself. I’ve learned that life is a process of circling back … at least that’s what I’ve found.

You may be pleased to know, my children’s books are at last coming to life. I have also recently published “Postcards from the Beach” a book of collected writings and watercolours inspired by the beach (available for pre-order soon via this website). Other titles to follow.

If you’d like to know more about my watercolours, enquire about the availability of originals, pre-order books, or ask about anything at all really … you can talk to me here”.
